It is with great sadness that the Guzman Family announces the passing of Virginia May Guzman on August 29, 2023. She was born on October 26, 1938 to Filemon and Guadalupe Garza.
Upon high school graduation she attended Business College in San Antonio, Tx. and came back to her beloved Rio Grande City. She married the love of her life Leonel Tadeo Guzman. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and cousin. She loved music and she loved to dance. She was a life-long parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church and a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years Leonel, her son Leonel T. Guzman Jr. (Stephanie) and her daughter Veronica Mae Guzman (Michael+). She is also survived by her brother Filemon Garza Jr. (Tere), her sisters, Irene Stach (Jimmy+), Olga Gonzalez (Enrique), and Yolanda Garza. Her brother-in-law Fernando Guzman(Dolores), her sister-in-laws Maria del
Rosario Laurel (Juan) and Alda Gonzalez(Arnulfo). Virginia had 6 grandchildren; Cassandra (Johnny), Justin, Phillip, Trey (Rosy), Stevie (John) and Rhianna. She was also blessed with 6 great-grandchildren; Miles (MJ), Sadie, Zaniah, Azalea, Jax, Tyler and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her son Javier, her brother Wilfrido and her sisters Isabel and Felicia. Viriginia will be remembered for her kindness, her love of life, her love of music and dancing. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to thank all the doctors and staff from Starr County Memorial Hospital, DHR, and Rio Grande Regional. The family would also like to thank Ray of Light Hospice for their care and dedication to her this past year.
Funeral services will be held on August 30, 2023 from 3:00pm – 8:00pm with a Holy Rosary at 6:00pm and on August 31, 2023 from 8:00am- 9:45am followed by mass at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:00am and burial at Rio Grande City Cemetery.
