McAllen/Rio Grande City: Thelma Guerra Ramirez passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, in McAllen, Texas on March 16, 2017. She was born on August 12, 1941 in Fronton, Texas to Guadalupe Guerra, Jr. and America Ramirez Guerra.
Thelma grew up in Fronton, Texas with her parents and siblings. She attended Roma schools, graduating from Roma High School in 1960. She was united in marriage to Jorge Ramirez in 1965 at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church in Roma, Texas. Together they raised their children in Rio Grande City, Texas. For over three decades, Thelma served as personal secretary to Dr. Mario E. Ramirez at his Medical Clinic. During most her life, she was a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rio Grande City where she was a Eucharistic Minister, assisted with the Sick & Homebound Ministry and at the Retama Nursing Home. She also volunteered at the church rectory office. In addition, Thelma was a devoted member of the Catholic Daughters of America - Court 1968, twice serving as Regent.
Thelma is preceded in death by her wonderful parents and by her brother, Roel H. Guerra. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Jorge, and her two children, Velma Ramirez Esparza (Ronaldo) and Jorge Luis Ramirez (Carmen). Also, left to treasure her memory are her beloved grandchildren, Vanessa Esparza, Ronnie Esparza, and Sophie Ramirez. She is also survived by her brother, Mario L. (Rosie) Guerra, and sisters America (Roberto aµ») Garcia and Sylvia (Martin) Canales.
Pallbearers: Ronaldo Esparza, Jr.; Roberto (Bobby) Garcia; Martin Canales, Jr.; Omar Canales; Mario Luis Guerra, Jr. and Robbie Garcia. Honorary Pallbearers: John William Ramirez; Michael Ramirez; Omar (Blue) Canales; Mario (Trey) Guerra, III. and Abe Gonzalez.
Visitation will be Friday, March 17, 2017 from 12:00 p.m.(noon) to 9:00 p.m. at Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City, Texas, with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. Her funeral Mass will be on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church in Roma, Texas with internment to follow at Rio Grande City Cemetery (located off Fairground Road), Rio Grande City, Texas.
