Santiago (Jimmy) Olivarez, Jr. joined Jesus in His Heavenly Kingdom on May 17, 2018. He was 84. Chago, as he was known by all who loved him, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving wife Josefina (Josie) and family.

Santiago was a man of deep faith and lived his life as such, always encouraging his loved ones to live with joy in their hearts.

Santiago was preceded in death by his parents, Santiago Olivarez, Sr. and Filomena Olivarez; his parents-in-law, Francisco, Sr. and Angelita Villarreal; his brothers, Esteban, Diego, Manuel, and Rogelio Olivarez; brothers-in-law, Alan Ramos, Enemorio (Moyo) Garcia, Roel Rodriguez, Juan Negrete, Juan Villarreal, and Francisco Villarreal, Jr; and sisters-in-law, Concepcion Rivera and Odilia Canales.

Santiago is survived by his loving wife of nearly 63 years, Josefina; his siblings, Concepcion (+Juan) Negrete, Alicia (+Alan) Ramos, Angelina (+Enemorio) Garcia, Fermin (Linda) Olivarez, Fidela (Alonzo) Alvarez, Jovita (+Roel) Rodriguez, Arnoldo (Rosa) Olivarez, and Maria Guadalupe Olivarez; and by his sister-in-law Maria (Nena) Villarreal, brother-in-law, Jose Villarreal, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City on Monday, May 21st, from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A Celebration of Life Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM that evening. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, May 22nd at 9:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church in Rio Grande City. Internment will follow at the City Cemetery.
