Sabina “Minnie” Laurel Gonzalez of Rio Grande City passed away Sunday, June 19, 2022 at the age of 91. She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Crisanto C Gonzalez Jr, and her brothers Dionicio, Eduardo, Marcos, Raul, and Horacio Laurel.
Sabina is survived by her children Crisanto C. Gonzalez III, Vilma Gonzalez, Javier Gonzalez, (Nilda Garza Gonzalez), Carlos “Charlie” Gonzalez, and Marco A. Gonzalez, 2 granddaughters Jennifer N. Gonzalez and Alyssa L. Gonzalez, 1 grandson Jacob Gonzalez, 4 great-grandsons Icarus, Aidric, Jace, and Liam Elizondo and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sabrina was born on April 16, 1931 in San Isidro, Texas, where she met her late husband. Sabina had a love for children and took a job at RGCCISD in 1970 as an instructional aide. She worked for the RGCCISD for 37 years and was very much loved by her students, co-workers, and members of the community. Sabrina also educated and prepared children for their first holy communion. She was a well-known member of Woodmen of the World and The Lion’s Club.
Visitation will be held at Sanchez funeral home on Wednesday, June 22, 2022. Mass will be at 10 AM on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at Immaculate Conception Church.
