Pedro Gonzalez of Salineno, Texas died peacefully with his wife by his side at his son's home in Weslaco, Texas on Friday, February 17th 2023.
Pedro was born on February 23rd, 1929 in Salineno, Texas. He was the eldest son of Julian and Dolores Gonzalez. He had 12 siblings. He was married to Olga Gonzalez of Meir, Tamualipas, Mexico on February 16, 1957 and spent 66 happy years together.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, 3 siblings who died in infancy, his sisters Manuela, Cecilia, Sylvia, Delma, Eva and his brother Julian, Jr.
He is survived by his brothers Adrian and Eloy (Olga), his sons Jose Luis and Juan Antonio (Maricela Volpe), his grandchildren & great grandchildren, Erica Vianey Davis (Richard Paul McHenry) and son Cole Ericson Anthony; Carla (Timothy) Bandini and son Benjamin; Roxanna V Gonzalez (Victor Hernandez) and son Samuel Francisco; Maria Lorena "Lori" Gonzalez (Robert Casey) and son Maverick; and Marco Antonio Gonzalez.
Pedro had been a farm worker, a construction worker, a soldier and finally a maintenance worker for the Roma Independent School District until his retirement. He was a proud labor union member and a gunner with the US Army during the Korean war. He was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was Post Chaplain in Roma from 1986-2001.
Pedro was not only a loving husband, father grandfather and great grandfather. He was very close to many of his cousins, and he loved his nieces and nephews and their children as his own. Pedro spread happiness and joy to all he came in contact with. His love and kindness are his legacy.
The family also wishes to thank Dr. Leticia Volpe for the love and care she provided throughout his illness.
Sanchez Funeral Home will be taking care of his funeral arrangements. The first day of Visitation will be Wednesday, Feburary 22, 2023 at 4 pm, with a Rosary at 6 pm. The following day will be Feburary 23, 2023 at 8 am with a Funeral Mass at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Refuge in Roma. Interment, in Mission, Tx. at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery at 1 pm.
