RIO GRANDE CITY - Pauline Doyno, 84, died Friday, March 28, 2014 at Amara Hospice Center in Edinburg, TX. Sanchez Funeral Home of Rio Grande City will be in charge of her funeral arrangements.
Pauline S. Doyno, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Doyno of Rio Grande City, Texas, passed into eternal life on March 28, 2014 at Amara Hospice in Edinburg, Texas.
Pauline, known affectionately to family and friends as "Dolly", was born in Rio Grande City, Texas and reared at Fort Ringgold. She began her early schooling at the kindergarten located at Fort Ringgold. Later on, she attended the Immaculate Conception School in Rio Grande City and graduated in 1945. After completing her high school courses in three years, she graduated from Rio Grande City High School in 1948.
Upon graduating from high school, she enrolled at Edinburg Regional College in Edinburg, Texas where she received an Associate of Arts Degree. She then attended Texas State College for Women, now Texas Woman's University, in Denton, Texas where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree. In 1957, she received a Master of Education Degree.
Having graduated from college, she began her teaching career. She was employed by the Rio Grande City Consolidated Independent School District where she taught at the secondary and elementary levels. After 37 years of service, she retired. Upon her retirement in 1989, the Class of 1965 of Rio Grande City High School wrote a letter to the editor of the Rio Grande Herald. The letter was entitled "An Open Letter to a Retiring Teacher." In this letter it stated that she was a wonderful model of good old fashioned values such as love of country, respect for religious belief, and the importance of education. It also stated that they felt blessed for having had the opportunity to have known her, and thanked her for her friendship, dedication, and devotion to the many students she had taught.
Pauline was a very creative teacher. During her tenure as a teacher, she received recognition for her teaching methods on several occasions. In 1983, her biography appeared in The MostProminent Educators of Texas by Nottingham Publishing Company.
She was a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church of Rio Grande City. In her youth, she was a member of the Junior Catholic Daughters of America and a member of the church choir. At college in Denton, Texas, she was a member of the Catholic Newman Club. Pauline was a life member of the Texas State Teachers Association.
What Pauline enjoyed very much was collecting nativity sets. She was able to amass 475 sets in her collection. She also liked gardening, reading, arts and crafts, and traveling. In her lifetime, she traveled to 39 states within in the continental United States of America, and visited 11 different foreign countries.
Pauline is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Frank andSinforiana G. Doyno, her two brothers, Paul Michael Doyno and Frank George Doyno, and her sister-in-law, Elma P. Doyno.
Surviving her is her loving sister Mary Elizabeth Doyno of Rio Grande City, Texas; her niece, Gladys Marie Doyno (Kevin) Black of McAllen, Texas; nephews, Paul Michael Doyno, Jr. ,ED. D. of McAllen, Texas, and Frank George(Cary) Doyno, Jr. of Los Angeles, California; grand-nephew Ian David Llewellyn of McAllen, Texas; great-grand niece, Maya Nichole Llewellyn of McAllen, Texas; and sister-in-law, Lydia C. Doyno of McAllen, Texas. She is also survived by numerous cousins, friends, and former students.
Visitation to be held at Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City on Sunday, March 30, 2014, from 3pm to 8pm, with rosary at 6pm. Funeral Mass will be at Immaculate Conception Church, Monday, March 31, 2014, at 11am. Sanchez Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
