Oscar Canales, 82, of Rio Grande City, Texas, passed away, Thursday, July 24, 2014. Oscar was born on March 8, 1932. He married Estela Barrera in 1953. Oscar was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was known as a caring and compassionate man that valued family above all things.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Rio Grande City Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for the many years of care and support that they provided to Oscar and his family. They also would like to thank the Retama Manor Nursing Center in Rio Grande City for their compassion and support during the last few months.

He is survived by his wife, Estela Barerra Canales; sons Hugo Alberto (Dalinda), Oscar Jr. (Luzelma), and Erasmo (Diana); grand children Clarissa (Arturo), Claudia, Cristina (Jose), Michael Aaron, Oscar Daniel, Crystal, Mario Cesar, and Erasmo Jr.; and great grand children Diandra, Analia, Arturo, Anahi, Devanni, and Jose Jr..

He was preceded in death by his son Mario Cesar Canales.

Viewing will begin today, Friday, July 25, 2014 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. and a rosary at 7 p.m. at Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City. Mass will be at (time pending) p.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Church followed by the burial at Rio Grande City Cemetery. Sanchez Funeral Home of Rio Grande City is in charge of arrangements.
