Osbaldo A. Saenz, Sr., 86, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2015, at his ranch (La Copita) in Starr County, Texas. Mr. Saenz, widely known as " La Onza" by nearly all in this area, was born September 20, 1928 to Pablo A. Saenz, Sr. and Anita Valverde Saenz. La Onza attended the Rio Grande City High School and proud fully answered his country's call during the Korean War and also served with the U.S. Army, 40th infantry Division, 740th Ordinance Munitions Co.
After his Military Services, Mr. Saenz married Maria Estela Garza. Mr. Saenz will be remembered by all for his devotion to Family, Duty, Honor and Country.
He was preceded by his spouse. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 8526. He is survived by 9 children: Estela S. (+ Jose Manuel) Bazan, Homero A. (Eva) Saenz, Osbaldo A Saenz Jr., Esther S.(Homero J.) Salmon, Carmela S.(Alonzo) Perez, Jose Pablo Saenz, Herlinda S.(Juan) Garza, Cecilia S.(Mario) Belmontes, Claudia S.(John) Hourigan.
Viewing started Tuesday, July 14, 2015, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and a rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow at Rio Grande City Cemetery. Sanchez Funeral home of Rio Grande City is in charge of arrangements.
