Nyra Araceli Gonzalez, 76, passed away peacefully at the Rio Grande City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday, January 12, 2021. Araceli was born on March 18, 1944, in Salineno, Texas.
She was the eldest of two children of Eusebio(+) and Herminia(+) Gonzalez. She is survived by her sister-in law, Regina (Roel+) Gonzalez; her three nieces; Anjanette Ivette (Omar) Garza; Marlen Lamar Gonzalez and Syboney Rae Garza (Joe Luis) Garza and her loving nieces and nephews; Julio Cesar Martinez, Jr., Hannah Lee Garza, Roel Ruben Garza, Jocelyn Rae Garza and Joe Luis Garza, Jr.
Araceli was an employee of the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department at Falcon State Park. She retired after 30 years of service. Her interests included family, gardening, and church. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to her beautiful mother, until she passed away at age 89. She was a devoted member of Our Lady of Refuge Nuestra Senora del Refugio Church in Roma, Texas. She played an active role as a member of the Court Oblates of Mary Immaculate No. 1978 and also of the Cofradia Del Santo Rosario.
Her life and her legacy have inspired her nieces to do the things we are not afraid of, to immediately take steps in the direction of our interests, passions, dreams, and to make others feel the way she made me us feel: understood, seen, loved and important. We all are going to miss her dearly and we will continue to love her. She will be in our hearts forever.
