Minerva H. Guillen

Minerva H. Guillen, age 98 of Rio Grande City passed away peacefully at her home alongside family on February 3, 2023.
Minerva was born on March 15, 1924 in La Particion Ranch, Jim Hogg County, Texas. She was the sixth child of Lino and Josefa Longoria Hinojosa. She grew up on the ranch in San Isidro, Texas and graduated from San Isidro High School.
On May 30, 1948, she married her true love Mario S. Guillen at a ceremony held at the Sacred Heart Church in Delmita, Texas. The couple settled in Rio Grande City and made a happy home for their son Mario Antonio.
Minerva graduated from Texas A&I University and became a first grade teacher at West Grammar, currently known as Roque Guerra Elementary in Rio Grande City where she was highly esteemed by peers, parents, and students alike, and then retired in 1985 after 37 years of service.
Minerva was a devoted wife, loving mother, and adoring grandmother. She was very proud of her family and blessed with two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Minerva enjoyed bird-watching, sewing, picnics at the ranch and family gatherings. Any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. She would spend many hours preparing in the kitchen for her visiting family and friends. She was a devout Catholic and parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church in Rio Grande City. Minerva will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
Minerva is survived by her son, Mario (Maria) Guillen and her grandchildren, Ryan (Dalinda) Guillen and Kimberly (Frank) Rodriguez; great-grand children, Cinco Demi Guillen, River Motley Rodriguez, Ryann Gray Rodriguez, Viva Bonita Guillen, and Ria Jeweliann Rodriguez.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Mario S. Guillen, her parents Josefa and Lino Hinojosa, her siblings, Josefa (Toraldo †) Perez, Raul (Inez †) Hinojosa, Hermilo (Lydia O.†) Hinojosa, Lino (Lydia G. †) Hinojosa, Noe Hinojosa, Ramiro (Hortencia †)Hinojosa, Emma (Eugenio †) Falcon and Elia (Guadalupe †) Munoz.
Viewing will be held today, Sunday February 5, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City, Texas. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m.
Family and friends will gather at Immaculate Conception Church in Rio Grande City, Texas for a funeral mass at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 6, 2023. Interment will follow at the Rio Grande City Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Minerva’s life.
