Margarita G. Salinas
Born: June 21, 1921 In Rio Grande City, Texas
Died: August 8, 2012 in Mercedes, Texas
A host of angels and her beloved previously-deceased family members were sent by Our Lord to take Margarita Gonzalez Salinas, age 91, to her heavenly home on August 8, 2012. She was escorted home by her loving husband, Ruben J. Salinas, who preceded her in death when she was only 40 years of age; also holding her hand was her much-loved daughter, Maria Elena (Nena) Salinas, her son, Francisco (Quito) Salinas, waiting at the gates to receive her were her parents, Abraham and Gertrudis Gonzalez, her brother, Abraham Gonzalez, Jr. and sister, Francisca Olivarez (Panchita).
Margarita G. Salinas is survived by her daughter Maria Irma Saldaña (Lauro) of Mercedes, Texas; and two sons Lauro Ruben Salinas (Mary) of Harlingen, Texas and Ricardo Ramiro Salinas of McAllen, Texas, as well as 11 grandchildren: Shiree D. Salinas, Laura M. Salinas,Christine S. Aguilar, Ruben J. Saldaña, Luis H. Saldaña, Carlos R. Saldaña, Rebecca Salinas, Roxie Salinas, Robyn Salinas, Veronica Salinas Mefford, Edna Salinas Titus and 11 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include her sister-in-law, Antonia V. Gonzalez as well as numerous nieces and nephews that she loved dearly and who loved her.
Those that knew Margarita G. Salinas were blessed, and those that didn't know her missed out in witnessing her unbeatable strength, her determination of survival during her personal life's tragedies, her dedication to her family and Las Escobas Ranch. After her husband died, at age 40 she raised her five children alone, who at the time ranged in ages 5 and 17 years old. She never complained and never retreated from any problems. She was a devoted mother to her children and grandchildren and continuously proved it by her unselfish acts.
We are grateful to God for granting her 91 years in this earth. Her loss will be felt for many years to come, but her children know that she is finally resting in the arms of her husband that she loved so much. Although 51 years have passed since his death, her thoughts were of him: so while her family is sad of longing to see her, they delight in picturing them together in heaven.
Viewing will begin today, August 10, 2012 from to 9 p.m. and a rosary at p.m. Mass will be at 11a.m.August 11, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Church in Rio Grande City. Burial will follow at Rio Grande City Cemetery. Sanchez Funeral Home of Rio Grande City is in charge of arrangements.
