Juan Roel Garza

Rio Grande City-Juan Roel Garza, 66, passed away Monday, February 13, 2017. He was born October 6, 1950 in Rio Grande City. He is the son of the late Alvaro and Elodia Garza.
Roel grew up in Rio Grande City and was a 1969 graduate of Rio Grande City High School. He served in the army honorably during the Vietnam War. He returned to Rio Grande City where he worked for American General until his retirement. He enjoyed his retirement following his favorite band, Riezgo, and enjoyed attending his grandchildren's various activities.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Miller Garza; stepmother, Elpidia Garza; three children, Sandra Salinas (Edward III), Mary Ann Gonzalez (Dennis), and Juan Roel Garza Jr.; nine grandchildren, Roman Salinas, Sabrina Salinas, Hailey Salinas, Daniel Gonzalez, Dana Gonzalez, Dennis Gonzalez Jr., Jacob Garza, Joshua Garza, Justice Garza; and his sisters, Mari Gonzalez, Isabel Reyes, Nydia Garza, and Rosario Gonzalez.
Roel was a loving and dedicated father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be greatly and deeply missed.
Visitation will be held from 11a.m. to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary, February 15, 2017, at Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City. Funeral service will take place at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, February 16, 2017, at Immaculate Conception Church in Rio Grande City. Interment will follow at Rio Grande City Cemetery.
