JOSE MARIA MARTINEZ JR

Jose Maria Martinez, Jr., aged 81, passed away quietly in his sleep at his beloved Rancho La Morita in Starr County on Thursday, December 11. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Colleen I. Martinez, his son Jose David (Deborah) and their children Javier Jose and Alyssa Marie of McAllen, his son Chris Javier of The Woodlands, his daughter Michele Marie (Ricardo Longoria) and their children Katarina Alexandra, Kristina Erin, Richard Michael, and Ryan Andrew of Sharyland, his son Ricardo Joel of Sherman, his son James Michael (Melisa) and their children Cameron Alexander and Connor Evan of Indianapolis, his grandson Christopher Ryan (Stephanie) of Rancho La Morita, and his sister Blanca Lilia Gonzalez of Rio Grande City. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Victor Rene.

Mr. Martinez graduated from Texas A&M University in 1955. After a short career in public education, he embarked on a 60-year career in the ranching and livestock industry. He also served three terms as County Judge in Starr County.

Funeral services will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church in Rio Grande City on Monday, December 15th at 10:00 am with burial to follow at Rancho La Morita. Visitation with his family will be held at Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City on Sunday December 14th from 1 through 8 pm.
