Jose Arturo Garza, 74, of El Sauz, Texas, passed to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 31,
2023. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arturo Garza and Ofelia Gonzalez Garza of Rio
Grande City, Texas, and his brother, Javier Garza, of Rio Grande City, Texas.
He is survived by his loving wife Genoveva Martinez Garza, of El Sauz, Texas, his children Jose
(Joe) Arturo Garza, Jr. of McAllen, Texas, Lauro (Larry) Garza of Austin, Texas, Abram Garza
of Sunnyside Washington, D’Anissa Garza of McAllen, Texas, his grandson, Jon Garza of
Mission Texas and his great-granddaughter, Laurette Garza of Mission Texas.
Jose attended Immaculate Conception School in the early grades, then attended Rio Grande City
High School for his senior years. His joy was spending time with his grandparents as a child.
Jose fondly remembered looking forward to the weekends and summers when he was able to
spend time with his maternal grandparents, Ignacio and Francisca Salinas Gonzalez, at the family
ranch (La Gaviota Ranch) in El Sauz, Texas. He also enjoyed sharing advice passed on to him
from his paternal grandparents, Jose and Maria Garza, (El Mexico Café) from Rio Grande City,
Texas. He often boasted about having the best sets of grandparents who taught him about life.
Jose was a landowner and worked as a rancher for over 50 years. Jose enjoyed football, hunting
and being at the ranch around his cattle. He enjoyed the company of his family more than
anything. He looked forward to holidays and birthdays because of time spent celebrating with
family.
Jose inspired his children to continue ranching. He encouraged all of his children to continue
with the family traditions and not to forget the struggles and triumphs the family endured
throughout the years.
