John "Johnny" Bates




RIO GRANDE CITY - Johnny passed thru heaven's gate on Tuesday afternoon, July 08, 2014 after a lengthy illness. Before becoming ill, Johnny was seen by many walking to and from a store. He loved to walk and enjoyed caring for his cats.

Johnny is survived by one brother Richard of Rio Grande City; 5 sister: Nina Catalano, Elma Coers, and Sandra Martinez of San Antonio, Ruth Rosenquist of Missoula, M.T. and Shirley Moore of Napa, CA., several nieces, nephews and cousins, and two very good friends who were so supportive during his illness, Gloria Gutierrez and Teresa Gutierrez.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Buddy, also a very special friend, Raul Pena.

His Funeral Mass will be today, Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 2:00pm, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rio Grande City, Texas. Burial will follow at Rio Grande City Cemetery. Sanchez Funeral Home of Rio Grande City will be in charge of his funeral arrangements.
