James Scott Davis was born on October 17, 1938, in Luling, Texas, to Charles Walker and Lura Estelle Tillman Davis. He peacefully passed away on December 18, 2024, at the age of 86, surrounded by family and loved ones.
James is survived by his wife, Debra Davis of Orange Grove, Texas, and their children: Laura (Berry) Nall of Falcon Heights, Texas, Jan (Mark) Self of Crosby, Texas, Phillip Davis of Harrah, Oklahoma, Richard Davis of Escobares, Texas, Jo Lynn Cummings of Orange Grove, Texas, and Jamie Davis of New Braunfels, Texas. He also leaves behind several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will cherish his memory. His sisters, Frances Kay Cosgrove Davis of Round Rock, Texas, and Lura Nell Daffin of San Antonio, Texas, along with his niece, Sandra Lynn Flippen (Lonnie) of Clifton, Texas, also mourn his loss.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lura Estelle Davis, and his sister, Floylene Dietz.
James' life journey began after he graduated from Breckenridge High School in San Antonio, Texas, and continued with his service in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1959 as an Airplane Mechanic. His time in the military instilled in him a deep sense of discipline and commitment, qualities that he carried with him throughout his life.
Following his military service, James worked as a self-employed professional in the air conditioning, heating, plumbing, and electrical industries in San Antonio and Zapata, Texas. He was known for his strong work ethic, skillful hands, and dedication to his craft. In addition to his practical knowledge, he was always eager to learn and improve, attending St. Philip’s College and several technical schools, including Carrier and Fireye, to enhance his expertise in the trades.
In his personal life, James had a deep spiritual devotion and spent much of his time studying the Bible. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, providing him with comfort, guidance, and strength. He found peace and purpose in his spiritual journey, sharing his insights and wisdom with his family and friends.
James also had a passion for woodworking, a hobby that allowed him to express his creativity and craftsmanship. Whether he was building furniture, repairing items around the house, or creating something from scratch, James approached woodworking with the same dedication and care that he applied to all aspects of his life. His works will continue to be treasured by his family as lasting reminders of his talent and love for creating.
James’ life was defined by his devotion to his family, his faith, and his work. His legacy of love, kindness, and craftsmanship will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but always remembered by his family, friends, and community.
