Inez "La Bebe" Hinojosa

Inez “La Bebe” (Carrera) Hinojosa transitioned to eternal life on Monday, April 26th, 2021, at theage of 91 years. Born in Rio Grande City on October 19th, 1929, she was the eldest child of Marcelo & Odilia Carrera, and was delivered by her paternal grandmother, Arnulfa (Macedonio)Carrera who became a significant figure very early in Inez’ life, raising her and twin brothers Roberto✚& Rodolfo Carrera✚, after they were orphaned following their mother’s death. Inez attended local schools, earned her high school diploma at the age of 16, and graduated from Durham Business College. She returned to Rio Grande City and began her business career first working at the local bank, then with her aunt Teodora (Martin) Garza, and shortly after partnered with her husband and established San Jose Flower and Gift Shop and bookkeeping service. She subsequently earned numerous awards for her almost 30 years of outstanding service as a devoted employee at Starr County Memorial Hospital.
In 1948, Inez met and married the love of her life, Raul L. Hinojosa✚ and for over 4 decades together they devoted themselves to their seven children. Preceding her in death are her loving husband Raul L. in 1992, infant daughter Griselda Iris in 1955, son, Raul Medardo in 2016, and brothers Roberto and Rodolfo Carrera. She is lovingly remembered by her family: Rosie (Arnulfo) Garcia, Thalia (Arturo ✚) Cantu, Viola (Raul ✚) Hinojosa, Cindy (Rey) Hernandez; Ray Lino (Anne) Hinojosa, Josie (Rigo) Reyes; her thirteen grandchildren: Annie (Jason) Sagebiel, Arnie (Jackie) Garcia, John Cantu, Nyssa Hernandez, Amanda Hernandez, Zeke Hernandez, Brisa Hernandez, Lino Hinojosa, Luke Hinojosa, Mitsy Delgado, Zasha, Jacob, and Rebeccah Amar, Aly, Aaron, and Ava Reyes and nine great-grandchildren: Wyatt & Wayde Sagebiel, Charlie, Ellie, Clark & Mack Garcia, Riley Benavidez, and Wilde and Wolfe Delgado. Other siblings are: Estella Canales, Ruben Carrera, Maria Elena Gutierrez, Elia Cruz, Rafael Carrera✚, and Reynaldo Carrera✚.
Inez was truly a kindhearted and selfless individual, and she will be deeply missed by those whose lives she touched. Inez lived a full life serving Our Lord as a devout Catholic and member of Immaculate Conception Church, serving for over 36 years in the altar society (Vela Perpetua). Along with her husband Raul, they belonged to the Order of the Alhambra, El Cid Caravan No.106.
Our sincere thanks for the compassionate care provided by the staff of the Bridges of Edinburg.  Special appreciation to her dearest cousin, Lydia Garza Saenz, for her unfaltering love and dedication.
Inez’s legacy will live on through the many family members, loved ones, and individuals she mentored and touched throughout her marvelous walk in life.  Services have been entrusted to Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, April 28th, 2-7 p.m. with Rosary at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, April 29th, 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church with interment to follow at Rio Grande City Cemetery. In keeping with the current COVID protocol, the use of masks and social distancing will be observed.
