Hortensia G. Silva

Hortensia G. Silva (Uma), 94, passed peacefully in her Rio Grande City home on December 17, 2014.

Hortensia (Uma as she is referred to by close friends and relatives) was born on June 5,1920 to Serapio and Martha Guerra in Los Villarreales.
Hortensia is survived by her two daughters, Yzelda S. (Silverio) Garza and Hortensia Silva-(Glenn) Weyand; her 4 grandchildren Silverio (Barry) Garza III, Nicolas Garza, Dayna M. Garcia and Adam G. Weyand; her siblings Juan Manual Guerra and Serapia Canales, her 9 great grandchildren, her numerous nieces and nephews; and the rest of her friends and family.
Hortensia is preceded in death by her husband, Nicolas Silva Jr. and her sister Isidra Doria.
Uma retired from South Texas Development Council at the age of 80 with 32 years of service. Within those year she helped to develop the hearts and minds of many generations. Often having taught the parents of her students.
Viewing will commence Thursday, December 18, 2014 from 1:00pm to 9:00pm, and Friday, December 19, 2014 from 9:00am to 9:00pm at Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on December 20, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow the funeral at Rio Grande City Cemetery.
