Francisco Adrian Quiñones entered eternal rest at the age of 86 on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg, Texas surrounded by his family. True to form, being a proud military veteran, he answered his final call resolute and steadfast. He was born on October 8, 1938, in San Diego, Texas to Geronimo Quiñones and Leonor Barrera.
He was preceded in death by his parents Geronimo Quiñones and Leonor Barrera, his brothers Francisco Adrian Quiñones and Rolando (Mary Angel) Quiñones; his nieces Betty Jean Smith and Maricela (Tony) De La Rosa.
He is survived by his sisters Ninfa Q. Smith and Vilma (Arcadio) Amaya; his nieces Adeline (Juan) Cantu and Patricia Amaya; his nephews John Quiñones, David (Angie) Quiñones, and Adrian (Jennifer) Quiñones; numerous great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Francisco Adrian, affectionately known as Tio Adrian, was raised in Guajillo, Texas and lived in Kingsville, Texas before moving to Rio Grande City in 2004 under the care of his niece and nephew Adeline and Juan Cantu. His love of family, friends and country has been evident throughout his life. He is a United States Army Veteran and a retiree of the Corpus Christi Army Depot, a helicopter and component repair and remanufacturing facility. Tio Adrian was never married nor had biological children, but he loved and was loved by his nieces Betty Jean Smith and Adeline Cantu as they were his own daughters. The love surrounding him grew exponentially with his great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Tio Adrian was a fun loving and generous man, with boisterous vocals and a witty sense of humor. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend and his presence will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 16, 2025 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. at Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City, Texas. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Rio Grande City, Texas. Burial with full military honors will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission, Texas at 2 p.m.
