Francisca Zapata Garza passed away peacefully on the morning of June 25, 2022, at Comfort House in McAllen, Texas.
Francisca’s Family is grateful for the loving care that their mom received from David Perez, the staff, and volunteers of Comfort House, and from Onder Ari and staff at the All State Hospice Agency. We would also like to offer thanks to Dr. Richie Sobbrevilla and the physicians at McAllen Heart Hospital for the special care provided to Mom.
Francisca was born in Cuevitas, Texas on May 26,1936 to Alfredo Zapata Sr and Andrea Reyna Zapata. Francisca graduated as valedictorian from La Joya High School, and from the Doherty School of Nursing in Corpus Christi with an RN certification. Shortly thereafter, she married the love of her life, Arturo Garza, on December 18, 1960 and had four children.
As an active member of the community, she served as president of the Immaculate Conception Mothers Club and lector at Immaculate Conception Church. She was also a member of the Florence J. Scott Study Club, board member of Texas Federation of Women’s Club, Hidalgo County Genealogical Society, Rio Grande City Garden Club, Metro Toastmasters Club, Rio Grande Wilderness Society, and Rio Grande City Historic Preservation Commission.
Francisca was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Anita Zapata, Aida Zapata and brother Alfredo Zapata Jr.
She is survived by siblings Maria R. Alaniz, Juventino (Carrie) Zapata and Gustavo (Rosie) Zapata.
She is also survived her loving husband of 61 years, Arturo Garza, son Carlos A. Garza (Cynthia), son Mauro D. Garza (Hilda), daughter Dr. Pamela Judith Burg (Jim) and son Andres A. Garza (Agueda).
She also is survived by grandchildren Andrea De Rueda(Marco), Corina Garza, Meredith Faire (RJ), Megan Garza, Carlos A. Garza, Alicia Burg, Audrey Burg, Nicole Burg, Andres Garza, and Daniela Garza, and by great grandchildren, Aubrie, Zoey, Bryce, and Preston. Francisca is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be at 3-8 p.m., Thursday, June 30, 2022, followed by a Rosary at 6 p.m., and viewing at 8 a.m.-9:45 Friday July1, 2022, all at Sanchez Funeral Home.
Funeral Mass will be Friday July 1st,2022 at 10 a.m., Immaculate Conception Church, Rio Grande City, TX. Burial will follow at the Rio Grande City Cemetery.
Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City, Texas will be in charge of arrangements.
