Encarnacion L. “Chon” Lopez Sr. a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 22, 2021, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Rio Grande City, Texas. Chon was born on January 12, 1924, to the late Mauricio and Ester Lopez. As a proud American, he honorably fought for his country during World War II. We will always cherish the stories told by him from his military days. He was an American Hero, a kind and humble man to all who knew him. He leaves behind many beautiful memories and valuable teachings. He cherished his family, always reminding us to never forget our roots and the sacrifices made by those who came before us to ensure we had a successful life. He was adored by his family and will live forever among all of us- in our hearts and memories.
Chon was a long-time resident of Rio Grande City, Texas where he was a pillar of the community. For many years, he was the only licensed plumber and electrician for the city, and everyone knew that he was just one call away. He was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW) post 08526, and a member of The Knights of Columbus; where he achieved the 4th-degree rank. He was also a dedicated member of The Immaculate Conception Church where he was a faithful usher.
Chon is preceded in death by his beloved wife Angelica A. Lopez; sons Rodolfo Carlos and Eduardo (Eddie) Lopez; his parents; brothers and sisters; and other beloved family members.
Left to cherish his memories are his children: Encarnacion Jr. (Leticia), Elda Rosa Lopez, Estela Lucio (Rudolfo), Eduardo† (Angela) and Rosie Arriaga (Oliver); grandchildren: Karina Colburn (Chris), Erica Lopez, Andres R. Lucio, Steven Paul Lopez, Alyssa Lucio, Amanda Lucio, Robert Arriaga, and Michael Arriaga; great-grandchild: Kalliope Colburn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Luis Arango, the medical staff from Healing Touch Hospice, and the medical providers from Prestige Home Health for their compassionate care.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City, Texas.
Funeral services with Military honors will take place on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Rio Grande City Cemetery. For the safety of all, strict COVID procedures will be followed during viewing and burial.
