Emma R. Smith

EMMA RAMIREZ SMITH, 89, passed away on March 05, 2017. Born April 24, 1927 in Lopeño, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Santiago Ramirez and Pilar Benavides Ramirez.
She was united in marriage to Gilberto Smith on May 16, 1945 in Roma, Texas. He preceded her in death June 25, 1987. They were happily married for 42 years. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her son, Gilberto Smith, Jr. in 2008 and her three brothers; Ramiro Ramirez, Roberto Ramirez and Hector Ramirez.
Emma attended the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for most of her adult life. She accepted Christ as her Savior and served as a faithful member who truly loved the Lord.
She is survived by her three daughters and spouses; Graciela (David) Ramirez, Buda, Texas, Minerva (Arnold) Garcia, Harlingen, Texas, Veronica (Ramiro) Barrera, McAllen, Texas; a daughter-in-law Rebecca Smith, McAllen, Texas. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Sandra Schmidt (Mark), Eric Garcia, Steven Garcia (Tracy), Christina Riley (Grey), Marissa Grambley (Gary), Daniel Barrera and Angela Barrera. She had five great grandchildren, Gillian Schmidt, Lance Schmidt, William Stinson, David Stinson, Charlie Stinson and Bradley Garcia.
Visitation will start today, Wednesday, March 08, 2017 from 3pm to 9pm. A Holy Rosary will be resided tonight at 7pm. Visitation will continue on Thursday, 9am to 2:30pm. Her Funeral Mass will be on Thursday at 3pm, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Ricardo officiating. Interment will follow at the Rio Grande City Cemetery in Rio Grande City, TX.

The family expresses its gratitude to the staff at Parkview Nursing Home in Lockhart, Texas, for their attentiveness and wonderful care our mom received while she was there. We also want to thank the Heart to Heart Hospice of San Marcos, Texas, for their kindness and devotion to our mom's comfort on the last days of her life. All funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Sanchez Funeral Home of Rio Grande City, TX.
