Elvia M. Olivarez ~ age 97, of Rio Grande City, Texas earned her angel wings from the peace of her home on Saturday, January 25, 2025, surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, care, and unwavering devotion to her family. Elvia M. Olivarez was born in Camargo, Tamaulipas Mexico on September 27, 1927, the daughter of Josefa Morales♱ and Benito Rivera♱.  

Raised in Rio Grande City, where she received her GED. She was a strong, dedicated, relentless, and fierce woman who overcame any obstacles presented that were usual for her generation with grace. Throughout her years she demonstrated a great drive for a better life, growing in her career paths. From a young age, she worked at various laborious jobs. Later, she became a supervisor at a processing warehouse, employed with Rio Grande City Consolidated School District, Community Action Council of South Texas, and The State of Texas-Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services where she ultimately retired after over 20 years of service. She was also a devoted member of the Immaculate Catholic Conception Church, where she lived a life following the word of the Lord and passing her teachings to those around her. 

Elvia was a kind soul who would greet everyone with a warm smile, and comforting words. She had a great sense of humor and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She loved nature, music, dancing, telenovelas, and telling stories of our ancestors and our culture. 

Elvia was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of all who knew her. Her love for her family was boundless, and her nurturing spirit created a foundation of love and unity that will endure for generations. She was a beloved sister to her five siblings; Caralampio Castaneda♱, Jaime Esteban Rivera♱, Martin Moralez♱, Rogelio Moralez♱, and Lydia Cortez. She was a devoted wife to her husband Juan Olivarez♱ and a loving mother to seven children; Maria Edelmira Gomez (Luis A. Gomez♱), Maria Enedina Olivarez-Lee (Michael Lee♱), Juan Jose Olivarez♱ (Linda M. Olivarez♱, Renee L. Olivarez), Enrique Aurelio Olivarez (Sandy Olivarez), Alicia O. Idell, Eduardo Javier Olivarez (Leticia Olivarez), and Elda Regalado. She was a cherished grandmother, beloved great-grandmother, and treasured great-great-grandmother whose memories, lessons, and values will continue to be carried forward by those she instilled in them. 

She has entered the gates of heaven, and although her presence will be deeply missed, her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

Rest in Peace Ma Elvia. You will forever be our guiding light. 

Services will be held to honor Elvia’s life and legacy will be under the direction of Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City, TX.
