Doctor Elva Eva Trevino, Mallé, passed away peacefully at Doctors Hospital Renaissance on Monday, September 12, 2022, at the age of 70.
She was born on December 2, 1951, in Rio Grande City, Texas to Jose Ernesto Treviño and Guadalupe Peña Treviño. She graduated from Rio Grande City High School, Class of 1970, then from Texas A&I University in Kingsville with a doctorate in Bilingual Education in 1991. She was a lifetime educator teaching many years for Rio Grande City CISD and Alice ISD. She was a research assistant and professor for adult basic education at Texas A&I University. She was then an ESL consultant in Harlingen ISD on a positive self-esteem for bilingual students program, she taught GED and adult classes, was a mentor teacher for the University of Texas - Pan American, a JTPA business management consultant, research coordinator for Texas A&I University, Utah State University, and the Texas Education Agency. She was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa, and a Catholic Daughters of America Member. Elva retired after working with Roma ISD as the Bilingual Education Director.
Elva is preceded in death by her parents Jose Ernesto Trevino and Guadalupe Pena Trevino, her brothers Jose Ernesto Trevino Jr. and Leo Derly Trevino, and sisters-in-law, Rubiola “Ruby” Trevino and Ismelda Lopez Trevino.
Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Patsy Ann Trevino, brother Jose Jaime Trevino, dearly loved aunts, uncles, and cousins, the apples of her eye nieces, nephews, and their children, as well as, her friends.
Mallé had many other interests and hobbies. She was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa, and a Catholic Daughters of America member. She was known for her jewelry and the neighborhood always commented on how she seasonally decorated her home. As a philanthropist she volunteered at the local libraries, the American Red Cross, and helped the community of Rio Grande City as a grant writer. Her love of fishing was incomparable and passed on to all her nephews and nieces. She loved animals, the ranch, and her forever companion Campanitas-Baby the Chihuahua/Pincher.
