Delia married her soulmate, Alberto Jesus Sanchez on January 24 th of 1948. She was always a good student and graduated from Rio Grande City High School where she was an excellent student and graduating in 1945 at the top ten of her class. She continued her studies in San Antonio, Texas where she earned a degree in Business at Draughon Business College. Delia worked with our State Representative, Arnold Vale; she also worked with the Starr County Tax Office and finally retired as a bookkeeper from the Rio Grande City School District. Delia enjoyed serving others. Being able to dedicate her time to serving others was her passion; she volunteered her services at the Starr County Hospital Auxiliary, Las Hijas de Jesus; La Vela Perpetual; and served as President of the Sacred Heart Club. Delia was a devout Catholic and anyone who knew her would see her kneeling on the first pew at church where she was always punctual. Delia would often give her friends a helping hand by taking them to church services as well. She loved sharing stories of her past with witty “dichos”; Delia always enjoyed a good joke and at the end of her life would have everyone in stitches with her witty jokes. Delia was also a master of Rummy, she loved beating you at a good game of cards; she loved working on her plants and being at the ranch with the family. We have countless memories to share, but most of all we remember that she loved reading the Bible and praying the rosary. Some of us would not be here today if not for the prayers of our mother or grandmother, Delia.
A celebration of Delia’s life will begin where we will gather with family and friends for a visitation at Sanchez Funeral Home in Ro Grande City, Texas on Monday, February 10, 2025, we will begin from 1 pm to 8 pm, with a rosary reciting at 6 pm. Delia Ponce Sanchez, 97 was called to be with the Lord on February 4, 2025 . May she walk through the pearly gates and be greeted by our Lord and Savior as they walk through the streets of gold and enjoy the beautiful waterfalls that feed into the serene streams of water. May the angels be gathered to greet her to the invitation where she will be met with her loved ones at last.
