Carolina R. Pena

August 09, 1928 - January 19, 2021

Carolina R. Pena entered eternal life on January 19, 2021. Carolina was born in San Diego, Texas on August 09, 1928, to Esteban Ramos and Rita Gonzalez Ramos. Her family later moved to Salineno, Tx. She met the love of her life in Salineno while he was working as a River Rider in the area. They married on June 24, 1951, and were devoted to each other for 57 years. Carolina worked for RGCCISD as a Community Aide for the Migrant Program. She loved her job and had lifelong friendships with many of her co-workers. Carolina endured many health obstacles in her lifetime, but she never gave up. She was an inspiration to her family and many who knew her. She had a passion for life and enjoyed every minute of it with her family. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren equally. She was a devoted Catholic and was a Woman of the Word in her earlier years. She had a passion for reading and loved trading books among her friends and family members. She was fascinated with birds, parrots in particular, and owned several for many years. She loved listening to the music of all sorts. Her favorite was guitar music, she was determined to learn to play the instrument and purchased one. This left us baffled, amused, but most of all, we were impressed with her determination. Carolina is survived by her loving siblings, Laurentina Juarez (+Benito Juarez) of Mission, Texas, and Ramiro Ramos (+Edna Ramos) from San Antonio, Texas. Her children, Jose Adan Pena (+Elizabeth Pena), Eva Angelina Laurel (David Laurel), Xavier Adrian Pena, and Melissa P. McGuffin (Robert E. McGuffin). Her grandchildren, Jose Esteban Pena, Liza G. Pena, Lori Ann Laurel, Lillia Laurel, Karla Pena, David Laurel Jr., Victoria B. McGuffin, and Carol M. McGuffin. Numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. A special thanks to La Mission Hospice,  Starr Home Health, and her friend and attendee, Gloria Vela.

Services will be held at Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City on January 22, 2021. The family has requested a private viewing.
