ARMANDO ASTORGA C. - MISSION TX - Armando Astorga C., 90, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Wednesday December 24, 2014. Armando was born in Nicaragua, Central America on April 7, 1924. He first moved to the United States in 1945, where he went to the University of Texas Austin to pursue his degree in Civil Engineering. During his lifetime, he obtained his Post-Graduate at Perdue University, multiple certifications in Agricultural and Industrial Development from various consultants and USA Government Institutions, and also attended M.I.T. to continue his education in Engineering Infrastructure and Planning for Third World Countries and Regions. Armando's professional career spanned both the United States and Central America. In 1950, he began as a Surveyor for the design of oil and gas pipe lines with Gaylord Stickle Company in Houston, Texas. He then moved in 1951 to Roma, Texas to work on the Falcon Dam project. During construction, he served as the Assistant to the Office Engineer and as the Assistant to the Project Engineer. In 1954, he returned to Nicaragua and worked for the Nicaraguan Government in multiple projects developing the infrastructure of the Central American nation. In 1968, he moved to Honduras to work for the Central American Bank of Economic Integration as an Engineer in charge of infrastructure projects in the 5 nations that make-up the region. He retired in 1988 and moved back to Texas with his wife. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and loving wife, Yolanda G. Astorga. He is survived by his daughter Lydia Y. Astorga and her sons Marc E. Piper and Michael E. Piper, his daughter Belinda Fiochi (Giampiero) and their daughter Alessia, Deborah Herlong(Dennis) and their son Aidan, Maria G. Astorga and her daughter Emilia Billing, Rosabel Astorga(Drew Robinson), Armando Astorga (Kathya) and their children Kacee and Noah, Luis A. Astorga (Jama) and their children Daniela and Adrian, and Hector D. Astorga(Lizbeth) and their daughter Gabriela. Sanchez Funeral Home of Rio Grande City is in charge of arrangements.
