Alonso Ibañez R., 68, of Rio Grande City, Texas, beloved husband of Rosa Elia (Canales) Ibañez for 43 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by his beloved family on June 12, 2014.

He was preceded in death by his parents Cosme and Mercedes Ibañez and his brothers Jose Israel Ibañez, Amador Ibañez, and Jose Maria Ibañez.

Alonso was born in Cd. Mier, Tamaulipas and later began his family in Rio Grande City. He was an avid businessman, a passionate rancher who tended to his family-owned and operated business Canales Drive Inn, and enjoyed continuously maintaining and improving his beloved ranches.

Alonso was a beloved brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Rosa Elia Ibañez; his children, Alonso Ibañez, Jr. (Clarissa), Claudia I. Salinas (Arcadio), Alvaro Ibañez (Lorie Ann), and Alfredo Ibañez; his grandchildren, Alonso Ibañez III, Alejandro Ibañez, Carina Ivonne Ibañez, Carisa Ivonne Ibañez, Alan Alonzo Ibañez, Arcadio Alonso Salinas, Jorge Daniel Salinas, Christa Victoria Salinas and Alvaro Ibañez, Jr.; his sisters Elma Gonzalez (Regulo), Englantina Garcia (Noe), Inelva Tamez (Joel) and Nancy Hinojosa (Ramon); his brothers Cosme Ibañez (Arabela) and Roberto Ibañez (Ramona) and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we spent with him.

Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, Saturday, June 14, 2014, with a 7 p.m. rosary at Sanchez Funeral Home of Rio Grande City. A second viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2014, with a 7 p.m. rosary at Sanchez Funeral Home of Rio Grande City. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rio Grande City. Burial will follow at Rio Grande City Cemetery.
